Charles “Mike” Owens, O.D.

Charles “Mike” Owens

Dr. Owens joined the Eye Physicians team in 2015 and has been practicing Optometry in Southwest Virginia since 1987. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in 1983 from East Tennessee State University. He received his Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in 1987. Dr. Owens is licensed in Virginia and specializes in general optometry for adults and children and treatment of ocular disease. He sees patients in both our Clintwood and Abingdon offices. When he is not seeing patients you will find Dr. Owens running the trails of Southwest Virginia and participating in marathons across the country.

Neil B. Sample, O.D.

Neil B. Sample

Neil B. Sample, O.D., a native of Honaker, Virginia, is a 2009 graduate of the University of Missouri with a Doctorate in Optometry. He earned a BS degree from Emory and Henry College in 2005. His training in Optometry included externships at Optometric Center, St. Louis, Missouri; University Eye Center; Scott Air Force Base and Washington University Eye Center. Dr. Sample is a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry. He is licensed in Virginia and specializes in general optometry for adults and children and treatment of ocular disease. He has a special interest in hard-to-fit and medically necessary contact lenses and fits a wide variety of lenses from soft to scleral RGP (Rigid Gas Permeable) contact lenses. He sees patients in both our Marion and Abingdon offices. Outside of work, Dr. Sample is an avid runner and participates in marathons around our region.

William F. Prestowitz, M.D.

William F. Prestowitz

Dr. Prestowitz has been in the practice of Ophthalmology since 1983. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Delaware in 1977 and graduated from George Washington University with a degree in Medicine in 1981. He completed a surgical internship at Tripler Army Medical Center followed by a residency in Ophthalmology at Brooke Army Medical Center in 1986. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow in the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Prestowitz is on staff at Johnston Memorial Hospital and Smyth County Community Hospital. He sees patients in our Abingdon office, specializing in Comprehensive Ophthalmology and Cataract Surgery.

W. David Kiser, M.D.

W. David Kiser

Dr. Kiser has been in the practice of Ophthalmology since 1982. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Tech in 1969 and graduated with a degree in medicine from The Medical College of Virginia in 1974. He completed an internship at Riverside Hospital in Newport News Virginia and a residency in Ophthalmology at Wills Eye Hospital in 1982. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow in the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Kiser is on staff at Smyth County Community Hospital, Johnston Memorial Hospital, and Wythe County Community Hospital. He sees patients in our Marion, Abingdon and Wytheville offices, specializing in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, Cataract Surgery and Eyelid Surgery.

Brett S. Compton, O.D.

Brett S. Compton

Dr. Compton joined Eye Physicians of Southwest Virginia in 2008. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Virginia's College at Wise in 2002. He graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2006 with a Doctorate of Optometry. He completed internships at the Salem Veterans Hospital and The Eye Institute in Philadelphia, where he received clinical honors in pediatric eye care. Dr. Compton is a member of the Virginia Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. He is a native of Dickenson County and specializes in primary eye care, pediatric eye care, contact lenses and treatment of ocular disease. He is licensed in Virginia and sees patients in our Abingdon office. Outside of work, Dr. Compton is interested in rare books and publications, especially those regarding the history of Southwest Virginia. He is married with two small children.
